Voltamos à rubrica 'mete-as-novidades-atrasadas-em-dia', desta vez em versão electrónica:

"Singularity", o mais recente disco de Jon Hopkins teve direito a um novo single, "Feel First Life". O vídeo é de Elliot Dear.




Ouvimos agora uns sintetizadores bem vintage: "Oh Baby", dos LCD Soundsystem, a faixa que abre o seu último de originais, "American Dream". O vídeo é de Rian Johnson Starring e conta com as participações especiais de Sissy Spacek e David Strathairn.




Alexis Taylor, o vocalista dos Hot Chip, ainda anda a promover o álbum "Beautiful Thing", lançado em abril deste ano. A nova aposta do músico inglês vai para a versão de "Suspicious of Me", aqui com o toque de Tim Goldsworthy, um dos co-fundadores da DFA Records. O vídeo é de Edwin Burdis.




Da nossa adorada Islândia, voltamos a receber os mais distintos embaixadores da música electrónica local: os GusGus. A música chama-se "Don't Know How To Love", conta com a voz de John Grant nos coros. O álbum chama-se "Lies Are More Flexible" e também foi lançado em abril deste ano. O vídeo é de Ellen Lofts, Andri Haraldsson e Baltasar Breki Samper.

A espada que pende sobre todos. - II

Em vésperas de uma das eleições (midterm elections) mais determinantes da história recente dos EUA, são vários os músicos que expressam o seu desagrado pelo actual estado das coisas. Aqui ficam alguns exemplos:

"(We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang", original dos Heaven 17, aqui pela mão dos LCD Soundsystem.




"Bloodless", de Andrew Bird, que deixa a seguinte mensagem:

We find ourselves in a cold civil war. Everyone is playing their part too well. Certain actors are reaping power and wealth from divisiveness. Echoes of the Spanish civil war when fascists and clergy win because they put up a united front against the individualistic and principled (yet scattered) left. We can turn this ship around but need to step back and be honest with ourselves about what’s happening while it’s still relatively bloodless.

"Edge of America", dos Duran Duran, em colaboração com o artista plástico David Medina:

'The Edge of America' video deals with two main notions: The impossibility of purity and the necessity of movement as important forces in nature and in our human condition. Using flocks of birds and those that have crashed with buildings and aircrafts (more than a billion every year only in the US) among photographs of immigrants in Ellis Island in NYC in the early 20th century, the video tries to convey this encounter between the universal impulse to move and the artificial boundaries that we create to stop it. Different faces, that are recombined in mutating compositions, show our diverse ethnic origins and the impossibility of purity or even a unique racial identity. Two concepts that are critical around immigration policies in the US and all over the world.

For Duran Duran's 'The Edge of America,' the media artist David Medina wrote custom software that creates different and unexpected automatic compositions and collages from an extensive bank of public domain images around immigration and bird collisions in the US. The software edits and processes the images using different parameters, such as the sound of the music, randomness and material from different databases. In the video a set of photographs of dead birds that crashed with buildings in Washington are used to show some of the thousands of strikes between birds and aircrafts in airports all over the US every year. Composite portraits of people of many different backgrounds are used to illustrate some of our multiple ethnic origins. The software creates different compositions that are always unique and diverse and this video shows only one of billions of possible combinations and visual outcomes.

Hoje, amanhã, depois....

Esta é uma grande música para se ouvir a qualquer altura. "Tonite" é o terceiro single de "American Dream", o álbum que marca o regresso dos LCD Soundsystem e que é editado dia 1 de setembro.

Sonhar com o passado.

Os LCD Sound System de James Murphy têm duas músicas novas, "Call The Police" e o belíssimo "American Dream".

Entre o pulsar do primeiro tema e as camadas (e camadas) de sintetizadores analógicos da segunda, somos transportados para o universo Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, da fase "Architecture & Morality". Sim, são 36 anos de distância entre "Souvenir" e este sonho americano, mas com esta qualidade sonora, até parece que Murphy contou com Andy McCluskey e Paul Humphreys no estúdio de gravação.

Aqui ficam os dois temas, ainda sem vídeos oficiais, mas com um pequeno bónus: uma actuação ao vivo de "American Dream", no Saturday Night Live.
